People often think the past was better than today, because they tend to idealise the memories and like to compare it to the present or future. Firstly, we prefer to keep in mind only good memorises that put a filter on every difficulty we faced some time ago and give a false picture. That also creates an image of the ideal past, reflected even by a nostalgic idiom - "A blast from the past" referring to the good old days often better than the present. Secondly, most of us have some kind of a sentiment that sets us critically against the new experiences, because they do not match our imagination. In my opinion people focus too much on the past and this is the reason they might concern about the future.
