So far this year the Maldives has welcomed nearly 150,000 tourists as the country has recently open up their doors to any and all global visitors, regardless of their passport. All you need to cross into this paradise is a mandatory Covid-19 negative certificate and a lot of money. Once you have confirmed to be Covid-19-free you can enjoy your stay without having to wear mask or comply with any restrictions. These are the reasons why this archipelago nation has become a magnet for high-end travellers seeking to escape the grim day-to-day elsewhere.
''The government says it open-door strategy is ideal for a tourism-dependent country whose decentralised geography - about 1,200 islands in the Indian Ocean - helps with social distancing. Since the borders reopened, well under 1 percent of arriving visitors have tested positive for the coronavirus, official data show''
The topic of travel in the pandemic era, as well as foreign tours, still causes much controversy. There are many countries whose economy is based mainly on tourism and the closure of borders has caused large looses in their capitals. However, there are places like the Maldives where virtually empty planes still fly, thus polluting the environment and showing people that pandemic only limits the poor. The coronavirus affects each and every one of us and as humanity we should collectively take responsibility for our actions and face the virus together without exception.

I just remembered that the virus first spread in Europe in skiing resorts in Italy and Austria, where people mingled in bars and restaurants. Don't they do that in the Maldives? I hope this isn't a disaster waiting to happen for the local population, and the rest of the world.
